Interventions: Collide
March 30, 2023.
This past year, I got to work with Northeastern's Scout to design for their 7th annual design conference. Scout is Northeastern's student-led design organization, made up of over 140 students who work with real-world clients, plan events for the Northeastern design community, practice design thinking for community partners, plan and execute Interventions, our annual design conference for the greater Boston community, and much more.
My role as designer for the conference team was my first experience with Scout, and I'm extremely grateful I took this opportunity. Starting in September of 2023, we were responsible for establishing a brand for conference from the ground up based on this year's theme: Collide. We had many brainstorming sessions, developing mood boards and taking personality quizzes, to decipher what Collide meant to us. This allowed us to finalize our Interventions: Collide brand book, solidifying the identity for this year's conference. Here are some highlights:
To us, Collide meant three things…
Colliding with Impact — breaking boundaries and engaging with experimentation, Colliding with Care — exploring how designers activate wisdom and ingenuity, and Colliding Unexpectedly — challenging how technology and other disciplines intersect with design. To emphasize design's reach across multiple disciplines, we knew we wanted to incorporate mixed media into our poster design. This consisted of combining textures, sewn elements, and photography.
We made a lot of stuff.
The Interventions: Collide website, social media posts, fliers, (lots of) posters, brochures, way-findings, signage, presentations, badges, stickers, pins, tote bags, t-shirts, flip books, hand-drawn icons, keychains, even M&M’s! Basically, if you saw it, we designed it.

Throughout the entire process, our team kept socials such as Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn up to date, as well as maintaining our Interventions: Collide website built from the ground up. Check them out here:
